Berserker 2: The Saga of Hilde is an action RPG with heavy hack-and-slash combat, and it is built for mobile first. You can grab it on android through google play, and it also shows up on the app store for ios players. This is not one of those games that also lives on steam, xbox, or switch, so do not go looking for a pc port. As far as I can tell it launched quietly on mobile and has stayed there. The download is free, which is how most people will install it in the first place. Installs are still on the lower side compared to the big names in the genre, so it feels like a hidden pick rather than a mainstream hit. In app purchases exist for gear and currency packs, and they usually run from a couple of dollars up to around twenty or thirty if you go for the bigger bundles. I did not hit any forced ads while playing, which is a relief.

You play as Hilde, and the loop is simple: move through stages, smash through waves of enemies, and upgrade your gear between fights. Combat is punchy, and the dodge timing actually matters once the tougher enemies show up. The best part for me is the boss fights, because they force you to learn patterns instead of just mashing buttons. My favorite moment was finally downing a boss that had wrecked me three times in a row, then going back and clearing the same stage without losing much health. That kind of progress feels earned. The controls are touch based, and they took me a bit to get used to, but after an hour or so the swipes and taps felt natural on a phone screen.

If you have played other mobile action RPGs, this one sits somewhere between the flashy combo games and the slower loot grinders. It reminds me a little of the simpler side of games like Grimvalor, though Berserker 2 leans harder into raw aggression. I recommend it over some of the bigger free titles because it does not bury you in menus or energy timers every five minutes. You open the app, you fight, you upgrade, and you move on. That directness is why I kept coming back. If you want a mobile slasher that respects your time and still gives you a real challenge, give this one a shot.

Features

  • Brutal combat feel 🗡️ Every hit lands with weight, and the screen shake and sound design make even basic swings satisfying, which is more than I can say for plenty of mobile action games.
  • Boss focused progression 👹 The game pushes you toward big encounters rather than endless trash mobs, so each stage has a real goal, unlike the filler waves in many similar titles.
  • No forced ads 🚫 Compared with games like Shadow Fight 2, which nags you with prompts and timers, Berserker 2 lets you just play after the install without constant interruptions.

Pros

  • Honest difficulty curve ⚔️ It ramps up steadily, and unlike some free action RPGs that spike out of nowhere, the challenge here feels fair and learnable.
  • Light footprint 📱 The download is small and it runs smoothly on mid range android phones, which is a big deal when games like Grimvalor ask more of your device.
  • Straightforward upgrade loop 🔧 You know exactly what your gear does and what it costs, so there is none of the confusing crafting clutter that slows down similar titles.

Cons

  • Thin story 📖 The plot around Hilde is mostly set dressing, and compared with story heavy RPGs it does not give you much reason to care beyond the next fight.
  • Limited content pool 🔁 Once you finish the main stages there is not a ton of endgame, and games like Shadow Fight 2 keep players hooked longer with more modes and events.
  • Shop pressure 💰 The in app purchases are not aggressive, but gear packs can tempt you into skipping the grind, which undercuts the satisfaction of earning upgrades yourself.
