Among the Trolls is a first-person survival adventure game set in a Nordic forest full of hidden folk, and it comes from Avantgarden SRL. It is not a pure mobile title at all. This one is built for PC, and you can grab it through Steam, where it sits in early access. There is no android version, nothing on the App Store, and no console release on Xbox or Switch as far as I know. The Steam launch came in 2023, and the install base is modest since it is a niche early access survival game rather than a big mobile hit. You pay once to download and install it, roughly in the twenty to thirty dollar range depending on sales, and there are no in app ads or microtransaction nonsense once you are in. That alone made me happy before I even loaded the first save.

You play as a modern person who ends up in a forest world where trolls and other creatures from folklore are real. The loop is familiar if you have touched the survival genre before: gather wood and stone, build a shelter, craft tools, manage hunger and warmth, and explore further out as you get braver. What makes it click for me is the atmosphere. The forest feels alive, the trolls are not just enemies to shoot but characters with their own rules and moods, and sneaking around them actually gets my heart going. My favorite part is the discovery. I spent one whole evening just following a strange sound through the trees and ended up in a cave I had no business being in yet. Games rarely make me feel that kind of curiosity anymore.

If you have played Valheim or Grounded, you will recognize a lot of the bones here. Valheim has deeper combat and building, Grounded has tighter co-op chaos, but Among the Trolls leans harder into folklore and mood than either of them. I would recommend it to players who want a slower, story-flavored survival game instead of a pure efficiency grind. It is not polished yet, and you should know that going in, but the world it builds is worth the rough edges. If you like the genre and want something with a bit of soul, give it a shot on Steam.
