So I finally spent some proper time with Ultimate Sackboy, and honestly, it caught me off guard in a good way. This is an endless runner, which is a genre I usually associate with quick sessions and not much else. The game was developed by Exient and it first popped up around 2023, landing on mobile first. That means you can grab it on android through the google play store, or on iOS if that's your thing. It is a pure mobile game, so don't go hunting for it on Steam, Xbox, or Switch. No PC or console version exists, which is fine for what it is. The install numbers are solid, sitting in the millions range on google play alone, which tells you people are actually sticking with it. The best part? It is free to download and install. No paying upfront. There are in app purchases, but they are mostly cosmetic or for extra coins and gems. You can easily ignore them. There are also ads, but they pop up between runs or when you want to double a reward. I never felt forced to spend a dime. If you do want to buy something, the smaller packs start around a couple of bucks, and the bigger bundles can hit twenty dollars or more. But again, totally optional.

Playing Ultimate Sackboy is simple. You swipe left and right to dodge, swipe up to jump, and swipe down to slide. That is it. The controls are tight, which matters a lot in an endless runner. Where it gets fun is the level themes and the little costumes you can unlock. You are not just running through generic streets. You are bouncing through craft worlds, dodging giant enemies, and collecting bubbles. My favorite part is the boss chases. They actually get my heart rate up. I also love that you can customize Sackboy with different outfits that reference other PlayStation games. That little touch makes it feel special. The game does not take itself too seriously, and neither should you. Perfect for a bus ride or a boring waiting room.

Compared to other endless runners like Subway Surfers or Temple Run, Ultimate Sackboy feels more playful and less grindy. Subway Surfers has more characters, sure, but the art style here is way more charming if you grew up with LittleBigPlanet. Temple Run is darker and more repetitive after a while. I recommend this game because it does not punish you for playing casually. You can pick it up, run three times, and put it down without feeling like you missed a daily quest. The ads are there, but they are not aggressive. The in app purchases do not block progress. If you like runners and want something with personality, this is a solid download. Just do not expect a deep story or console level graphics. It knows what it is, and it does that well.
