Simple Calendar - easy planner, developed by Komorebi Inc., is a straightforward scheduling app that does exactly what its name suggests. It was first launched on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store back in 2017. It's completely free to download and install, with no registration required to start using the basic functions. The app relies on optional in-app purchases for a few extras, but for most people, the free version is more than enough. I don't get bothered by in-app ads, which keeps the whole experience clean and quick to navigate.
To use Simple Calendar, you just open the app and tap on a date to add an event or a reminder. Each event can be color-coded, so it's easy to separate work, personal, or school tasks at a glance. A tip I'd give is to set default reminder times in the settings, so you don't have to manually adjust every event. The app also syncs seamlessly with Google Calendar, so any changes you make on your phone show up right away on your desktop. For me, the best part is that it loads instantly, even on older Android devices.
I downloaded Simple Calendar because I wanted something lighter than Google Calendar. I had tried apps like aCalendar and Business Calendar 2, but those felt too cluttered with features I never touched. This app keeps things minimal but still gives you all the essentials, like week, month, and agenda views. It's a no-fuss solution for anyone who just wants to track dates and events without having to wade through a ton of menus. If you value simplicity over everything else, this app is a solid choice.
Features
- ⚡Lighter and faster than Google Calendar. While Google Calendar takes a few seconds to load on my old phone, Simple Calendar - easy planner opens instantly and doesn't drain the battery. It's built for performance, not for collecting user data.
- 📅Customizable widget that shows exactly what you want. Unlike the default calendar widget on Android, this one lets you pick the color scheme, font size, and how many days are visible. You can resize it without it glitching out.
- 🔔Smart reminders that respect your "do not disturb" settings. Other calendar apps like Outlook Calendar sometimes ignore your phone's notification settings, but Simple Calendar listens. It never wakes me up at 2 AM for a meeting reminder.
- 🗑️Easy bulk deletion of old events. Google Calendar makes you delete events one by one, but here you can select entire months or years and remove them in one tap. Great for clearing out expired schedules.
Pros
- 🧹Zero learning curve compared to apps like TickTick or TimeTree. You don't need to spend hours figuring out where everything is. It works like a real paper planner, but digital.
- 🔒No account required for basic use. Most similar apps, like Any.do, force you to sign up before you even see the main screen. Simple Calendar - easy planner lets you start using it straight after the install.
- 💾Offline functionality that actually works. Unlike Google Calendar, which struggles without internet, this app stores everything locally and syncs when it can. I use it during flights without issues.
Cons
- 📉Limited event categories compared to Business Calendar 2. That app offers 20+ color labels and subcategories, while Simple Calendar only gives you a handful of color tags. It feels restrictive for complex planning.
- 🔄No native integration with Microsoft Outlook or Apple iCloud. If you rely on those services for work, you'll need to export and import manually. Google Calendar users are the only ones who get seamless sync.
- 🎨The design, while clean, can feel a bit too basic for some. Apps like aCalendar offer dynamic themes and animated transitions, which make the app feel more modern. Simple Calendar sticks to a very static look.
